Your document doesn't make xdvi core dump for me in my current sources.
Since in Martyn's case this depended on the user, the problem is
unlikely to be system-related; more likely it's the exact environment
variables which are set, or their values. Sending me whatever env
variables you have set might help.
Even better would be if you could run xdvi under a debugger, make it
crash, and then see where the crash is happening. I doubt the problem is
deep; my guess is it's related to the changes I made so XDVIFONTS
wouldn't override anything but font paths. But that's just a guess.
